Hi! I'm Fernanda, a character animator and illustrator from Santiago, Chile and this is my blog! I graduated from the 3D Character Animation program at Animation Mentor, but I specialize in 2D as well (Actually I love it the most!). I also love making comics and hope to finish my graphic novel one day. Here you will find updates about my projects, sketches and animation stuff in general.

Beatboards for CGMA storyboard class of a story about a vacation traveling alone :) I went for a children book-like style for these

Illustration for an article about the new law that could run in Chile that will classify and label games, assigning their own age and content ratings for video games, mostly decided by people who don’t know anything about videogames. It was made for the videogame blog Rocket Win.

Monster Wrestlers for Character design class!
They were really fun to make, but the most challenging was the last one, because I wanted to make a female monster and it was hard to give her female atributed without them being: bows, curves, a lot of pink and dresses/skirts. But you know? There are ways to do it, those are just the stereotypes we get when we think “girl” and I think with a little more work we can deviate from them and try to get more variety of female character designs.

These were part of a Christmas/Birthday gift for my boyfriend :) We don’t really have a lot of photos together even if we’ve been together for a couple of years :,D (I don’t like photos too much), so I wanted to recreate some moments for him to keep!

I drew these on Paint tool sai, and then passed them through an instagram kind of web program and added filters and effects and stuff to make them look like hipster photos xD Below are the originals, without the filters and post-production :)

Not really for Christmas but you can imagine they’re making christmas cupcakes 8D.
This was my final assigment for CGMA, after the last critique from my instructor Helen Chen :) I’m happy with the result!

dubtoons asked: Omg I love your art. Its so well made and cute! And your animation is marvelous! Btw how much time did it took you to do the animation? (I know the process is hard, since im studying Animation) but I wanna know, and good luck on your future projects!

Hi! Thanks, I’m glad you liked my work :) My latest short film took a year to make from start to finish, but I had some months where I didn’t even touch it or work very little on it, so…I’ve thought that maybe if I worked on it full time it would have been around 5 months! Thanks :)

The first image is an experiment I made from the second image, which was a homework assigment of a color study from a photograph (the third image).

I had fun modifying the original study I made to make it look more like an illustration I would usually make. Probably messing up stuff like the colors in the process and the logic behind them, but probably I can keep doing this in the future putting a little more thought into it.

This is part of the Travelogue I’m making from my trip to California, and is when I kinda vomit some of the thoughts I’ve had about success, dream jobs, life goals etc. It is kinda a big deal for me, because until a couple of months ago, I though that my life goal was to work for some kind of big studio, or that animating whatever would be enough for me (I’ve been thinking this since I was 13), and it’s not really true anymore, so it’s like for the first time in my life I’m lost about what I want to do with my carreer. Which the answer is probably animation but, WHAT in animation?

Oh, also, the Bill Waterson speech I’m talking about is the same that has been going around in comic form from Zen Pencils, but I read it before as this article http://www.brainpickings.org/index.php/2013/05/20/bill-watterson-1990-kenyon-speech/ is much complete also, so I can assure it’s a great read :)

Small client work I made, I had to make a styleframe depicting one of the judges of the bible, one that the only thing known about him was that he had around 60 kids, hahaha.
